Is Alone Time Lonely, or Blissful? Discovering the Art of “Being” in the German Countryside

The Luxury of Solitude: Finding Bliss on Your Own

A soft smile and a warm, “Oh, you’re back!” from the local cafe owner in the German countryside. In a culture known for its reserved nature, this felt like a quiet blessing.

Sitting in the sun at an old castle orangery, watching a distant fountain while surrounded by lush greenery, I realized how much I treasure my alone time. It is my sacred space to reset, reflect, and recharge.

But it wasn’t always this way.

Healing the Self-Conscious Mind

Years ago, when living in unfamiliar towns in Japan, I used to sit in elegant cafes feeling completely restless. I was hyper-aware of the space around me, filled with anxiety: Do I look lonely? Do they think I have no friends? I truly believed that joy had to be shared with someone else to be valid.

Today, as I sit freely in a foreign land whose language I once feared, I am struck by how deeply we can transform. The high wall of feeling like an “outsider” has naturally dissolved.

I have learned that happiness isn’t an either/or choice:

  • Happy alone.

  • Happy with family and friends.

True adult wisdom is allowing yourself to thoroughly enjoy both. Learning to love your own company doesn’t mean you are lonely; it means you have expanded your capacity for joy.

A Gentle Question for You

When you are alone, do you feel blissful, or do you still feel that old, familiar restlessness?

If you are holding onto discomfort or a heavy feeling that you can’t quite shake, there may be deep-seated beliefs holding you back from your ultimate freedom. You don’t have to uncover them alone. As your coach and catalyst, I am here to support you in looking inward, healing those quiet anxieties, and designing a life of true alignment.
